I have interviewed so many authors from India, United States, Italy and England and have felt that authors have always been humble. But, when I interviewed Sneha, I felt that she is one of the most modest authors, I have even interviewed. The young soul has managed to pitch in words like a seasoned campaigner.
Team Okiedoks wishes success and happiness to her today, tomorrow and always. Let us know more about the talented author…
1. Could you introduce yourself via your interests and aspirations?
I am a restless, sensitive, obstinate writer and a fine arts
fanatic. I like photography and the melody of music especially instrumental. I just want to express the feelings and the mindset. And aspirations..... I aspire to be known as the writer who kept writing unto the last
droplet of blood in the nerves...
2. How the idea of writing a book did come to your mind? How did ‘For
what you are’ happen?
I have been writing since childhood. My poems used to get published in my school magazines. Later, when I got employed, I started blogging on the intranet website of our organisation. Its a wonderful platform provided by them to share our creations, ideas, thoughts, views, problems and discuss various topics. It has a wide approach even to
the remote areas of our country which are still out of touch of internet and thats how some of my poems and articles skipped out of my diary and got posted there. I started getting appreciation from all over the country and several senior writers of our organisation suggested me to initiate and take a solid decision.
But still, I was contented and did not think about writing. Last year, when I was preparing for my graduation final year exam, I had to prepare some notes about contemporary Indian writers. For that I read a novel which was a bestseller. Frankly speaking, that was my experience of reading any contemporary Indian author. And then, I gain the confidence that I can also write.
"For what you are..." is my latest story which got published first. When I had completed my 12th, I had much time and almost half dozen of my diaries got filled with unaccomplished horror, suspense and thriller stories before getting admission in graduation. In fact, my second novel- an intense thriller on which I am working at present, was roughly shaped at that time. But my friends suggested me to debut with
a romantic comedy.
And that’s how, I created the plot of "For what you are...." which lacked any love track initially. But later, I added one. And then, plot by plot, scene by scene, dialogue by dialogue, it got developed. And in near 45 days, the book was complete with the poems, the song and the lyrics beaded story. And needless to say, this girl from an nderdeveloped small town would never have become a published author without the immense help and support of family, senior colleagues and friends all across the country. Thats how "For what you are..." happened.
3. You are young, but if you had to write the same book again, say 10
years down the line, what aspect of the book would change?
The values, assumptions, life style, etc. many factors/components
change time to time. Every writer expresses the current phenomenon in his work and his stuff is a mirror image of the current era with his own views. It could not be determined today.
4. Which writers have influenced your writing style?
Frankly speaking, I am not that a good reader. And honestly, I
don't want my writing to be influenced by any author. I want my
readers to feel "Sneha" only while reading my books...
5. Many start writing, but only some complete it. So, what is the most
important ethics of writing?
Writing is the expression of inner vision of the outer atmosphere.
It comes out it self not through any planning or ethics. Planned writing is not natural or real writing. My ethics, if it could be said as ethics, is to observe, feel and compare the plots with moral values and surroundings and honestly write down.
6. How has the publishing of the book changed you, as a person?
I am still the same as I have been. My flying thoughts are revealed only in my stories. In my personal life, I have always been a girl with dreams beyond the sky and feet on the earth. Thanks to my life, even before getting my book published, I have had
good acquaintance with both the aspects of destiny. My loving and caring mother Mrs.Vineeta Gupta and my father Mr. Pawan Kumar Gupta have always taught and kept me aware of the realities of the world.
And thats how, me and my life have always been best friends, helping
each other and caring for each other.. Despite of no noticeable changes in my self, I feel more responsible in my inner sense and my vision has become sharper towards surrounding.
7. Who is your favorite author and why?
To say honestly, I never peeped out of my syllabus books but yes I am an ardent fan of Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay, William Shakespeare and Emily Bronte. The respect with which Sharatchandra has sketched female characters of his novels - their innocence and truthfulness - have made me the devotee of his novels. Sharatchandra is one of those writers who have done justice with feminine aspects. I love Shakespeare's cute and sweet
comedies. And of course, Bronte's intense style of writing creates a fascination.
8. What are the pros and cons of dwelling in arts and literature?
Well, to dwell here, you should have consistency and willingness to
accept the realities. Here destiny is more guided by luck than labour.
If luck favours you, you reach the heights. If not, then I have heard
about several fine artists starving to death.
9. Which quote do you feel would suit the story of your book - For what
you are?
Not only one single quote, but several quotes can independently suit the story. But here I'll mention two.
A story of mistakes, misdeeds, misconceptions, misinterpretations...... and being loved for all that....
A story of a question and a hunt for the answer.
10. Any advice to young writers and other artistic souls?
Be consistent, know and accept the realities, be devoted to your work and most important - don't loose your heart. Here I'll mention one sentence from my book - For what you are...
"Aim high, approach your goals, with passion and determination. Success awaits you..."
