Lets know more about the young film director....
1) You have come a long way from being a child actor to a Hindi film director. How was the journey? Kindly tell us something about your initial days.
As a child, acting was on stage so I would lie if I said, I dreamt of being a film director then. There has been a natural progression from acting, writing and now to direction. The journey from college, then the plantations and then to Bombay had its ups and downs and I am glad that I went through whatever I did, as it has helped make me a person who cherishes the small and big joys of life. It was never easy but nothing that I regret.
2) Filmmaking can be fun for some, a challenge for some – what is filmmaking to you ?
The whole process of making a film from the concept to the script and then to the final product is a journey..at times its fun and other times its a challenge...The fun of it is to enjoy the challenges. For me film making today is not a right, its a privlidege and I should respect it.
3) What factors does a director normally look when he is hunting for a script?
I really dont know what it means for others, I could only speak for myself. I believe that the script you decide to take up somewhere represents your state of mind. What your heart is telling your brain, at times the brain takes over and says the economics might not work and then the heart takes the final call. Usually the heart works and you end up with a film made from the heart. I think from my heart and want to make a connection with audiences..direct dil se dil tak (Heart to heart)
4) Munna bhai MBBS was a comedy movie, but its more of a social film. Any comments on this genre of films?
A film that entertains and leaves a strong message makes a greater dent. Such films are remembered long and are cherished as well. The comic bits are life that makes us smile, cry and scream. Munna bhai has been a defining moment for audiences in India.
5) Do you agree with the critics when they feel that if a filmmaker writes his own film, it comes out better?
Its kinda weird when films dont work people say that the director should direct and the writer should write scripts. When the film works, they say, "see a director when he writes his own film leaves a bigger mark." I think its important that a script should work and if it does, the film works. Kisne leekha, kab likha (who wrote, when and how did it write) does not matter.
6) Which directors and movies do you admire and why?
I enjoy all films, I learn something from every viewing. Something good, bad and not so good as well. All directors have something unique to offer and I try and pick that up.
7) Which is the most under-rated movie of all times?
I feel films are a personal choice, some may like a film others might not. Ones which work are becoz the audiences felt they liked it, hence no film is under or over rated. Time of the release decides the state of mind of the viewer and the fate of a film.
8) If you would get an opportunity of make an already made movie, which would it be?
If a film has been created and screened, it has been done with a thought by the director and reproducing that would not be possible. If I was to re make the film, I would either be copying the entire film with no soul or making a plot my way. I would prefer the second option to a give new soul to an older plot.
9) Don’t you think that Kabir Sadanand, the actor gets suppressed by Kabir Sadanand the director in the context of making a movie?
The actor hates the director as the director does not bother to cast him.
10) Your new movie ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ would be out next month. What is it all about?
Tum Milo toh Sahi is a film about love at different ages. The magic of discovering love at 18 , redicovering the true meaning of love at 35 and redefining the meaning of love at 60. The strength of love that makes ordinary into extra ordinary. The film represents real people and their joys of life. Come share a smile..Tum milo toh sahi (Let's meet atleast)
